Don’t let the exterior of the building fool you! This lovely little pousada offers great, clean, spacious and well-kept rooms in Barra, at a great price. Located a 5 minute walk from the beach and the bus to Pelourinho (10 minutes). Rooms range from dorms to doubles and quads, and include overhead fan, private ensuite bathroom, CD player, and veranda with table and chairs. Common lounge area with TV for guest use; internet and drinks available although there is a small charge. A great spot that is sure to be remembered in any Brazil vacation.

Pousada Suites do Pelo

This is one of the best deals in town for backpackers on a budget! Located in the heart of the Pelourinho, this little pousada offers well-kept, simple rooms at a great price! As a result it’s close to many of Salvador’s tourist activities and restaurants. All rooms include ceiling fan, TV, large windows, fridge, and private ensuite bathroom. Kitchen and lounge area for guest use; breakfast included and free WiFi. Restaurant located directly below the pousada offers good cheap meals. It’s definitely not perfect, but it will be more than adequate in a pinch or for the traveler on the cheap. If you go any cheaper, don’t expect anything even close!

Since the town is small, it’s fairly easy to walk around to several places to find accommodation on arrival; however, if you’re arriving in the high season, you will most likely want (and need) to book ahead or you could be out of luck. The perfect place for the backpacker on a budget! Only 250 metres from the beach and 150 metres from the main street, Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos! The hostel offers a range of accommodation from bright and cheery dorms to cute private rooms with ensuite with hot water, ceiling fan, balcony and hammock. Morro de Sao Paulo Hostels

Morro de Sao Paulo is packed with hostels and hotels, mostly concentrated around the town, but with a few along the beaches as well. The accommodations are generally quite reasonable and within easy reach of beaches, restaurants and nightlife. If you’re coming in the high season, you may want to book ahead as rooms tend to go quickly and get booked up far in advance. But, if you are fairly flexible in either the condition of your accommodation or the price, you will likely be able to find something by just asking around among the locals.

Pousada Gaucho

One of the cheapest pousadas in town, this family-run place offers clean, well-kept rooms in the main town, only 200 metres from Primeira Praia (First Beach). All rooms have TV, fan, air conditioning and private ensuite bathrooms; hammock and patio table and chairs outside rooms. Some rooms have sea views. A good tropical breakfast is included.

Hostel Morro de São Paulo

The perfect place for the backpacker on a budget! Located in the main town, and only a 5 minute walk to the beach, this place offers a diverse range of rooms, from dorms to doubles, triples, quads, and more. This place is all about location on a budget! Jericoacoara Hostels

Jericoacoara is full of hostels. There are not many places you can stand in the village and not see hostel. As a result, their are some great choices available. The hostels listed here are mostly on the smaller side, and since it’s not hard to find a party in Jeri, that usually gives you a more intimate experience. That being said, we love a good party hostel. Here are a few great beds for both the partier and then beach bum (or any combination thereof):

Pousada do Tadeu

With one of the best locations in town, this larger pousada has rooms accommodating from one to five people. Located on the main street, about a 2 minute walk from the main beach and the best jericoacoara nightlife. Room amenities vary from fan and hot shower, to air conditioning, hot shower, TV and fridge. Verandas with hammocks and common lounge areas. Travel/tour information and bookings available. Breakfast included. English and Portuguese spoken. From R$50/night, low season.

Cumelen Bed & Windsurf

Two beautiful little chalets run by a Brazilian and his Argentine wife. Loft with a queen bed, fan and window overlooking the common garden; downstairs, single bed, kitchen and bathroom; private veranda with table and chairs and hammock. Breakfast included, but optional reduced price excluding breakfast. 7-8 minute walk to the main beach, 3 minute walk to the other beach. English, Portuguese and Spanish spoken. From R$65-80/night, low season. This is a gem, don’t miss it on your Brazil trip . Especially for couples.

Three room guesthouse run by an amiable Brazilian-German who takes it upon herself to make her guests feel completely at home, from offering free internet and movies on her spare laptop to cooking group dinners. The rooms accommodate 2-3 people and are equipped with ceiling fans, large windows and ensuite bathrooms, including the best shower (hot water + good water pressure) we’ve managed to find in all of South America! When visiting Iguazu we definitely recommend staying on the Argentinean side. It has a much nicer atmosphere and some great hostels to compliment one of the highlights of your Brazilian vacation.

Puerto Canoas (Puerto Iguazu, Argentina)

This lovely little hostel is a great deal for travelers on a budget! Quiet and well-run by extremely helpful and friendly staff, and located only three blocks from the bus station and the centre of Puerto Iguazú, on a quiet residential street. The rooms are comfortable and fairly spacious, all include air conditioning (very necessary, especially in the summer when temperatures reach well over 40˚C), private ensuite with hot water, and own patio with table and chairs facing a common courtyard. Good breakfast included and served to your table; internet, lounge area, courtyard with hammocks, kitchen, and travel desk all available for guest use. The staff go out of their way to help you organize your visit to both sides of the falls and make your stay here enjoyable. We even got a free room upgrade!

One of the best values in hostels in Foz or Puerto Iguazú! Good combination of great prices, great location, great staff and great facilities for the backpacker on a budget! Located just two blocks from the Puerto Iguazú bus station and a few more to the centre of town. Rooms are for one to four people and include private ensuite with hot water, and air conditioning. The swimming pool and courtyard are the perfect place to cool off and relax after a long, hot day at the falls. Breakfast included. Internet access, travel desk, bar, kitchen, BBQ, TV room with DVDs and music, book exchange and transfers available for guests.

Though there are not huge amounts of hostels on Ilha Grande, the beautiful locations and views make staying almost anywhere here the highlight of a Brazilian vacation. The Island can be hard to get around for Brazil, but rest assured the locals are more than willing to help you get to your next destination from your hostel, be it an Ilha Grande restaurant, or something as far away as Iguazu Falls.

Aquario Hostel

Only a 7-8 minute walk from the main town of Vila do Abraão and directly on the water, Aquario Hostel offers a quieter, more exclusive location than accommodation in town. The hostel hosts weekly barbeques with live music or DJs and offers a whole slew of activities, ranging from surf board rental, to kayaking, boat trips around the island, and diving courses. The hostel offers activities, including water sports and organized activities, and hosts great group dinners for a reasonable price. Accommodation varies from dorms, which can be a tad cramped, to doubles with private ensuite. Some rooms have fans, others air conditioning, depending on the category of room chosen. Canoa Quebrada Hostels

While it is not quite the Hostel paradise of Jericoacoara, it is a great spot for a comfy beach vacation. You’ll need a nice place to crash after windsurfing and drinking caipirinhas on the beach all day! There are plenty of hostel to choose from, but these are our favorites. Remember that hostels can get very pricey during Brazilian holidays, Brazilian Vacation periods, and prime windsurfing seasons.

Quebramar Pousada

This is one of the few true budget options in Canoa Quebrada and definitely one of the best values in town. Located just above the beach, the views are stunning! Rooms are basic but cute with thatched roof, fan, private ensuite with hot water, and fridge. For a bit extra, you can get a veranda with ocean view. Breakfast is included
Doubles from R$40/night, R$60/night with ocean view.

Pousada Dolce Vita

This beautiful little pousada, just off the main road and close to the beach, has 10 bungalows, each named after a Fellini film, surrounding pretty gardens and a pool. Bungalows range in size, but all include air conditioning, private ensuite, kitchen and living area. Breakfast and free WiFi included; laundry, restaurant, bar and travel desk available.
Doubles from R$105/night.

Pousada California

This charming pousada has 28 comfortable rooms, ranging in size, around a beautiful pool and gardens. Breakfast included; free coffee and fruit all day; restaurant, internet access, WiFi, laundry, bar, guest kitchen, common room, BBQ area, travel desk, and nightclub on site. If you’re looking to splurge a little, this is a great place to do it without ruining the budget! Tip: it’s much cheaper to stay here during the week as prices almost double on weekends. A great spot to take a rest when you travel Brazil.
