Canoa Quebrada has some awesome adventure sports at reasonable prices. There are a ton of activities available here, both physical and relaxing, so here are a few leads to get you started!

Zip line off the sand dunes

Get your thrills riding the zip lines on some of the sand dunes that take you plummeting down the dunes and drop you in pools of water below! The view on a clear day is one that will take your breath away if the zip line does not! Just ask at any of the Canoa Quebrada hostels for quick directions.

Kitesurf at the mouth of the Rio Jaguaribe

Canoa Quebrada is renowed for its kitsurfing! It’s a great sport to try if you are longing for adventure and something to spice up your travels. Although not exactly a budget option, it is a thrill and worth saving up for! The best time of year is from July to December, although it is possible to give it a try outside of windy season provided there is a bit of wind. Try Kite Holiday or Kite Surf Adventure.

Go traditional: sail a jangada

The water here is stunning and there is no better way to take it all in than from a Jangada. Jangadas are very traditional, and beautifully colourful Brazilian dugout sail boats. A ride in one of these makes for a relaxing and picturesque afternoon, though a lot less adrenaline pumping then the other options in Canoa Quebrada!

Canoa Quebrada is just a quick jaunt from Fortaleza and as a result it is frequented by many local Brazilians. Compared to Jericoacoara, it’s a beautiful beach, but a lot less hassle to get to making it a popular spot for those with less time to travel Brazil!

Getting to Canoa Quebrada

There are several options to or from Fortaleza. There are at least five daily buses that take approximately 3 hours and cost about R$20. There are also tour vans that do the same trek in only 2 hours, but cost R$35. Arriving from the South, catch a bus to Aracati, 13km southwest of Canoa Quebrada, and hop on a minibus that leaves every half-hour until 6pm for R$2, or catch a taxi for R$15.

Canoa Quebrada Nightlife

If you’re looking for a relaxed beach party Canoa Quebrada is the place to be. Great atmosphere, great people in a spectacular setting, with just a short walk home to just about any of the hostels. Enjoy!

Beach Barracas

The cheapest nightlife in town (as in most Brazilian beach towns) are the barracas serving dozens of different kinds of caipirinhas and caipiroskas! All the fruits are on display and you have creative license to come up with whatever delicious fruity concoction your heart desires. If you can dream it up, they can make it!

No Name

This is Canoa’s only disco and it packs in partiers to dance to a range of music, from samba to house to reggae and more. You can find a huge variety of music here and people of every walk of life. The music pumps late here so be ready to party all night! Resident and guest DJs.

Freedom

Dance away the night to reggae beats on the beach! This beach barraca hosts a reggae party every Sunday night beginning at 1:00am, lasting well into the early hours of the morning. It’s a great way to meet people and take in the beach. This is a great nightlife bargain for the backpacker on a budget!

Canoa Quebrada has some great eating options and that’s a must when you are worn out from days of sitting on the beach! You can find a great selection here and most restaurants are only a quick stroll from any of the hostels. We recommend the Argentine steak in particular!

Café Habana

Good hearty cheap eats are served up at this café on Rua Principal. Menu includes seafood, pastas and more. Yummy daily specials are a good deal and very satisfying for the backpacker on a budget!

A little piece of Argentina in Brazil! Treat yourself to the all-you-can-eat rodízio and gorge yourself on delicious grilled meats.

Sarué

This cute little restaurant serves up delicious meals at reasonable prices in a pretty courtyard full of flowers. Creative dishes put a twist on everything from curries to steak. There’s even live music some nights!

Canoa Quebrada is stunning. The sand cliffs, the white beaches, they are the jewels of the North East and they are well represented here in Canoa. With stunning sunsets, friendly locals and great hostels and restaurants, it’s hard not to fall in love with the village. The Jangadas in particular are a special sight doting the horizon, as are Canoa’s famous windsurfers , just one of the many activities to keep you busy here.

Remember it’s a quick jaunt from Fortaleza! Well worth the trip and great to get away from the bustling city!

Canoa Quebrada Hostels

While it is not quite the Hostel paradise of Jericoacoara, it is a great spot for a comfy beach vacation. You’ll need a nice place to crash after windsurfing and drinking caipirinhas on the beach all day! There are plenty of hostel to choose from, but these are our favorites. Remember that hostels can get very pricey during Brazilian holidays, Brazilian Vacation periods, and prime windsurfing seasons.

Quebramar Pousada

This is one of the few true budget options in Canoa Quebrada and definitely one of the best values in town. Located just above the beach, the views are stunning! Rooms are basic but cute with thatched roof, fan, private ensuite with hot water, and fridge. For a bit extra, you can get a veranda with ocean view. Breakfast is included
Doubles from R$40/night, R$60/night with ocean view.

Pousada Dolce Vita

This beautiful little pousada, just off the main road and close to the beach, has 10 bungalows, each named after a Fellini film, surrounding pretty gardens and a pool. Bungalows range in size, but all include air conditioning, private ensuite, kitchen and living area. Breakfast and free WiFi included; laundry, restaurant, bar and travel desk available.
Doubles from R$105/night.

Pousada California

This charming pousada has 28 comfortable rooms, ranging in size, around a beautiful pool and gardens. Breakfast included; free coffee and fruit all day; restaurant, internet access, WiFi, laundry, bar, guest kitchen, common room, BBQ area, travel desk, and nightclub on site. If you’re looking to splurge a little, this is a great place to do it without ruining the budget! Tip: it’s much cheaper to stay here during the week as prices almost double on weekends. A great spot to take a rest when you travel Brazil.

Canoa Quebrada is one of the Northeast’s most popular beach destinations and justifiably so. With huge pink sand dunes and craggy cliffs tapering off onto a white sand beach, all fronting azul waters, tons of good quality pousadas and hostels, loads of good restaurants and the best nightlife in Ceará outside of Fortaleza, this place has much to draw travelers here and keep them coming back! It’s one of the must hit beach towns on the North East Circuit rivaling Praia da Pipa and Jericoacoara. When you travel Brazil, at least one of these towns should be on your list!

Besides the spectacular beach, Canoa Quebrada also offers a range of activities to keep you busy should you get ‘beached out’ (as if that could happen!), from kitesurfing, to dune buggy rides, to horseback riding, to jangada sailing. There is a ton to keep you occupied here and many travelers find it very difficult to leave! So beach it all day and party all night because this is the place where travelers relax and let loose in the Northeast!

The sandy cliffs of Canoa Quebrada have enthralled many a traveler and if you want both a stunning beach you’ll never forget and a slew of activities to keep you busy, Canoa Quebrada is the place to go. It’s worth a side trip from just about anywhere!
